The club was originally called The Ufford Cottage Garden and Allotment Society, and was founded on the 24th October 1907 and so can definitely be classed as a village institution. It is, and has always been, an extremely sociable club with currently 73 members, an impressive number for our relatively small village.
Meetings are held on the fourth Wednesday of each month at 7.30 pm, either in St Mary’s Church Hall or the Pavilion, where we are entertained by a series of expert speakers on a variety of gardening related topics. It is a very convivial atmosphere complimented by the odd glass of wine. Non members are very welcome subject to a fee of £2 payable at the door.
In late Spring we hold an annual plant sale, where a whole range of plants can be purchased at knock down prices - a very economical way of adding to one’s plant stocks for the coming season.
One of the Club’s annual highlights is the Summer Show held every July in St Mary’s Church Hall and adjoining meadow. This is a fun event and open free of charge to all villagers, not just members.
We also have an annual outing, last year visiting a private home with a delightful walled garden right in the heart of Framlingham, together with the very popular member’s open gardens event during the summer.
We welcome new members; If you are interested in joining us please contact the Club Secretary, Keith Bennett, Tel: 01394 461587.
Membership Fees - £7 per annum
We are affiliated to the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) and to the Suffolk Horticultural and Produce Association (SHAPA).
